Cambria County, Pa. (WJAC) — It was a historic weekend in the military community.
The Corps of Cadets for two senior military colleges -- Citadel and VMI -- are both commanded by women.
Saturday morning, they got to meet each other for the first time during a parent's weekend, parade, and football game between the colleges.
One of those women, Cadet First Captain Kasey Meredith (the Regimental Commanding Officer of the Virginia Military Commander Corps of Cadets) is from right here in Johnstown.
She's a 2018 graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School.
She is the institution's first woman commander ever.
Organizers say this formal recognition is the first year in history when both Senior Military Colleges’ Corps of Cadets are being commanded by women.
