Windber Woods retirement community celebrates grand reopening

WINDBER, Pa. (WJAC) — A senior living and retirement community in Somerset County celebrated a grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday. Several upgrades were made to the Winber Woods Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center. Caring Health Systems came in to revamp the center's operations. The center features a 27-acre campus with multiple levels of care, including rehabilitation services, long-term nursing and care in advanced nursing areas. Altoona code enforcement "condemns" church

ALTOONA -- Archway Ministries in Altoona is closed this week with a "condemned" sign on the door. The church's food bank serves more than 100 people monthly, but pastor and building owner Louis Grillo said that service is put on hold. During an inspection, officers found evidence of rats and mice throughout the building and food pantry, according to City Code Enforcement Director Rebecca Brown. Human skull found near Cambria County river; investigation underway

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say an investigation is underway after a human skull was reportedly found Thursday night near the Little Conemaugh River in Conemaugh Township. Officials with the coroner's office say the skull was reportedly found by a fisherman around 8 p.m. Investigators say they are focusing on identifying the remains at this time. Cambria County coroner Jeff Lees says his office is working with a forensic pathologist, a dentist and an anthropologist to identify the skull. Read More...
